KCC Art Exhibit Brings Six Artists to Battle Creek |
The free Six Artists exhibit showcases 28 works through December 3rd |

Kellogg Community College has opened a free group exhibition that places six African American artists and 28 works inside Battle Creek’s DeVries Gallery.
The show, titled “Six Artists,” opened on October 26th and is scheduled to continue through Thursday, December 3rd, 2026.
Visitors will find graphite, pastel, acrylic and multimedia pieces, giving the exhibition a wide visual range rather than a single shared style.
The featured artists are Tyree Broadway, Ben Edwards, Shaquona Espinoza, Al Harris Jr., Tommie D. Lockett Jr. and James C. Palmore, all based in Kalamazoo.
That regional connection gives Battle Creek audiences a chance to see several nearby creative voices in one room.
The exhibition is in the Eleanor R. and Robert A. DeVries Gallery inside KCC’s Davidson Visual and Performing Arts Center at 450 North Avenue.
Admission is free and the gallery is open to the public.
Visitors should take one extra step before choosing a time, because KCC’s public information currently lists conflicting gallery hours.
The exhibit announcement says the gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursdays.
The current DeVries Gallery page instead displays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
An additional KCC art-program page lists fall and spring gallery hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Because those schedules do not match, visitors should call KCC’s Arts and Communication Office at 269-965-4126 before making a special trip.
Beyond the practical hours question, “Six Artists” offers a compact introduction to artists working across traditional drawing materials, painting and mixed media.
A 28-work presentation is large enough to show variation among the artists while remaining approachable for a lunch-hour or after-class visit.
The group format also invites viewers to notice how different materials carry line, color, texture, memory and identity.
The DeVries Gallery regularly hosts professional solo and group exhibitions alongside the college’s annual student art exhibition.
KCC’s broader visual-arts offerings include studio courses, public art on campus and an Associate in Fine Arts pathway for students who want to continue their education.
That educational setting can make a gallery visit useful for working artists, students and families who want to talk about how a finished piece moves from idea to public display.
The college’s North Avenue campus also includes an outdoor sculpture program, and visitors can browse KCC’s events calendar for other arts activities.
For Battle Creek’s maker community, the show is a reminder that a free local exhibition can be both inspiration and an accessible way to support regional artists.
Anyone planning a visit should confirm the current hours, use the gallery entrance information provided by KCC and allow enough time to view all 28 works.
